CAF president Patrice Motsepe confirms the plan of a possible African Super League

News

The president of CAF is considering the idea of creating an African super league.

The idea was first proposed by FIFA president Giani Infatino who suggested that an African super league should contain 20 permanent clubs with other clubs qualifying through regional play offs.

This comes after some European clubs decided to create a European super league but the move was unsuccessful as it received alot of criticism from players and fans across the world and even from footballing bodies like UEFA and FIFA. This criticism forced nine of the initial twelve founding clubs to quit the competition.

The criticism was largely due to the fact that it was suppose to be a closed competition meaning it was to consist of permanent teams.
CAF president Patrice Motsepe in an interview said that the idea of the African super league will be good for Africa football and they will learn from the criticisms received by the failed European super league.
“We are assessing and in preliminary discussions to start an inclusive and broadly supported and beneficial CAF African super league” he said in a statement
“We have been following attempts by some top European clubs to form a European Super league and will learn from their experience and pitfalls.”
The CAF president replaced Ahmad Ahmad back in March.
He added “there is a poor perception of CAF concerning it’s adherence to governance, auditing, ethical, financial and management good practices”, he said

“These negative perceptions may, to some extent, be confirmed by the incriminating and damning audit which identified irregular, unethical and improper transactions and conduct.
