In recent years, African Footballers have been joining clubs for huge transfer fees which shows the growth in African Football.
There are many African Footballers playing for the biggest football clubs in the world like Mane and Salah who play for Liverpool, Mahrez who plays for Manchester city, Choupo-moting who plays for Bayern Munich and many more
We came up with a list of African Footballers with the most expensive transfer fees
1. Victor Osimhen 🇳🇬 | Lille to Napoli | £72 million (2020)
Napoli broke the bank for the inform Nigeria center forward in 2020 making him the clubs most expensive signing of all time.
He joined Napoli after a brilliant season with French club LOSC Lille where he bagged thirteen goals in twenty nine appearances.
Nicolas Pepe 🇨🇮 | Lille to Arsenal | £72 million (2019)
The second African player on the list who was bought from French club LOSC Lille, Nicholas Pepe spent two seasons at Lille where he joined from Angers. In those two seasons with LOSC Lille, he scored 35 goals in 74 appearances helping Lille secure a place in the Champions league in his last season with the club before moving to Arsenal.
3. Cedric Bakambu 🇨🇩 | Villarreal to Beijing Guoan | £65 million (2018)
The Congolese player became the most expensive African player when he joined Chinese club Beijing Goan in 2018 for £65m(which was a record at that time) from Villarreal. Bakambu spent three seasons at Villarreal before joining Beijing Goan where he scored 32 goals in 75 appearances for the club.
4. Riyad Mahrez 🇩🇿 | Leicester City Manchester City | £60 million (2018)
Mahrez joined Manchester city from Leceister city 2018 just a season after their shocking title win.
He was among the key players in Leceister city’s premier league title win in the 2015/2016 season where he was voted PFA player of the year
5. Achraf Hakimi 🇲🇦 | Intermilan to PSG | £59.3 million (2021)
The Moroccan is widely considered as one of the best defenders in the world. He joined PSG this summer from Inter Milan where he won the Serie A title with them last season
In total he made 37 appearances for the club scoring 7 goals.
6. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 🇬🇦 | Dortmund to Arsenal | £55 million (2018)
The Gabon international began his senior club career playing for Italian club A.C. Milan, but never appeared for the club as he went on a series of loan spells in France. He moved to Saint-Étienne in 2011. There, he won a Coupe de la Ligue title and joined Borussia Dortmund in 2013. In Germany, Aubameyang finished as the league’s top goalscorer in the 2016–17 season and won a DFB-Pokal. He also ranks as the club’s sixth highest all-time goalscorer. In 2018, Aubameyang was the subject of a then-club record association football transfer when signed for Arsenal in a transfer worth £56 million (€60 million), making him the most expensive Gabonese player of all time.With Arsenal, he won an FA Cup and finished as the league’s joint-top goalscorer in the 2018–19 season
7. Naby Keita 🇬🇳 | RB Leipzig to Liverpool | £53 million (2018)
The Guinean began his professional career with Ligue 2 club FC Istres in 2013, and a year later he moved to Red Bull Salzburg, where he won the Austrian Football Bundesliga and Austrian Cup double in both of his seasons. He then moved to RB Leipzig in 2016, making the Bundesliga team of the season in his first year and the UEFA Europa League squad of the season in his second. He agreed to join Liverpool in 2017, and completed the move a year later, winning the UEFA Champions League in his first season at the club, and the FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League the following season
8. Sebastien Haller 🇨🇮 | Eintracht Frankfurt to West Ham | £45 million (2019)
The Ivorian joined Westham united in 2019 after two outstanding seasons with Frankfurt where he won his first ever carreer trophy the DFB pokal where he scored fours. In his last season at the club he scored 15 league goals in 29 appearances which was good enough for a seventh place finish for Frankfurt.
His transfer to Westham united was a club record but the move didn’t quite go as planned as he registered 10 goals in 49 appearances.
He is currently playing for ajax after joining the club in January 2021
Thomas Partey 🇬🇭 | Atletico Madrid to Arsenal | £45 million (2020)
Nicknamed the octopus for his ability to find space and distribute balls all over the pitch, Partey began his professional career at Spanish club Atlético Madrid in 2013, going on loan to Mallorca and Almería, and returned to Atlético in 2015, with whom he won the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2018. In 2020, he joined Arsenal in a transfer worth £45 million (€50 million), becoming the most expensive Ghanaian player of all time.
10. Mohamed Salah 🇪🇬 | AS Roma to Liverpool | £36.9 million (2017)
Often called the Egyptian Messi Salah has proved on countless occasions why you shouldn’t leave his name out when naming the best players in the world.
The two time premier league golden boot winner joined Liverpool from AS Roma where he bagged 15 goals in 31 appearances.
Salah also played for Chelsea where he joined from Basel in 2014 but couldn’t break into Jose Mourinho’s team.
He was sent to two loan spells at Fiorentina and Roma(later made it permanent)
He scored two goals for Chelsea in 13 appearances.
11. Sadio Mane 🇸🇳 | Southampton to Liverpool | £34 million (2016)
The Senegal National team captain is ranked among the best players in the premier league.
His pace and ability to skip pass defenders makes him a joy to watch.
He holds the record for the fastest hattrick in premier league history after scoring 3 goals in 176 seconds in Southampton’s 6:1 win over Aston Villa.
He spent two seasons at Southampton after joining from Red bull Salzburg for a club record fee of £11.8m. He registered 21 goals in 61 appearances for Southampton before joining Liverpool in 2016
Hakim Ziyech 🇲🇦 | Ajax to Chelsea | £34 million (2020)
The Morrocan wizard joined Chelsea in 2020.
Ziyech is known for his dribbling and goal scoring abilities.
Ziyech spent four seasons at Ajax before joined Chelsea and was named in the Eredivise team of the year in each of the seasons winning the player of the year in three of those four seasons (2016/2017, 2018/2019, 2019/2020)

The second time he appears on the list.
His offensive capabilities makes him one of the most wanted right backs in the World.
He also plays as a wingback and can play in both the right side and left side.
Hakimi couldn’t break into Real Madrid’s first team.
After coming back from a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund he was loaned again to Inter Milan with an option to buy who later made the loan spell permanent.
