Biography of Jato Sonita , the forest child who is always in plantain leafs 🍀🥬 singing with a beautiful voice and band.

JATO SONITA popularly known as THE FOREST GIRL; is a super talented 15 years old teenage singer in Cameroon that hails from Ndonga Mantung Division in the North West Region born on August 28th, 2008.

Sonita is the leader of THE FOREST CHILDREN (A group of young talented children which due to the socio-political crises that led to war and the disruption/destruction of schools sought refuge in the Forest and started singing and dancing as a way of relieving themselves from the trauma of the crises and also making their voices heard)

Dressed in banana leavres, and using rudimentary tools and a guitar, Jato Sonita and her group have been doing renditions of beautiful African songs, while including their local languages to beautify and disseminate great information to their communities and the world. Some popular works she and her group have done are renditions of “Be proud” by Witty Minstrel, “Aflye” by Fally Ipupa, “Cousin Militaire” by Donny Elwood , “Elimba Dikalo” by Eboa Lotin.

Sonita has also featured in songs with reputable artists like Faya, Blaise B, Gasha, Oken etc.

She also featured on the 2022 African Theme Song that included international artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Tanzania and Kenya. She is currently representing Cameroon by working on an All Stars African Project titled “let them shine” which features some distinguished and very talented Kids across the African continent, Her works have caught the attention of international artists like Beyonce, Fally Ipupa 2Face Idibia etc

Besides Music , she is a very excellent public speaker, actress and dancer. She is also highly involved in community and humanitarian activities especially those related to environmental protection and the fight against climate change by planting trees and advocating for the conservation of forests and the proper disposal of plastics.

In all, Jato Sonita has displayed exceptional leadership skills by leading a band of over 20 kids.Within 2 years, Jato Sonita has amazed over 140,000 followers on facebook with some of her videos totalling over 2 million reached on social media platforms.

Talking about awards and recognitions, Jato was nominated at the African Children of the Year Awards 2022 in South Africa. She won the second prize in Cameroon as the Revelation of the Year at the MTN Zik Award 2022.

Listed and ranked amongst the top Under 40 achievers in Cameroon by AVICOMM GROUP in 2021. She has a special recognition from the Cameroon Career Woman Awards 2022 in Belgium.She also had a special prize at the Wimbum Youths Awards 2022, and was nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize 2022.

Jato is a promising sensation that is destined to take cameroon music and culture to the ends of the world as she and her Forest Children Band strongly hold the slogan “From The Forest To The World”.

She has currently released her first debut single titled “Light Your Fire” which is a great song that is out to encourage and give hope to people all over the world not to give up in anything or any circumstance they are passing through

The forest child, Jato SONITA is a currently a form 5 student of Heart of Life College Mankon and wishes to become an environmentalist and farmer when she grows up.
