Cameroon is undoubtedly one of the best African footballing countries of all time.

The five times African Champions have left their mark in African Football and world football.
They hold the record for the most World Cup participation’s for an African country(7) and they are also the first ever African country to reach the World Cup quarter finals in Italia 1994, Senegal(2002) and Ghana(2010) have also gone on to achieve that feet.

Do you know that Cameroon was once ranked 11th in the fifa rankings ahead of Countries like Spain, Sweden, Croatia, Switzerland ? Yes you read that correctly. In the November 2006 rankings, Cameroon occupied the 11th position in the FIFA rankings.
Only Nigeria(9th) were ranked ahead of them in Africa.

Up to  date, only 3 African countries have ever  achieved a better ranking than Cameroon in FIFA rankings history.

1.) Nigeria: Nigeria was ranked 5th in the 1994 FIFA rankings. Nigeria is a country that has made the continent proud in terms of football. The country has won three African Cup of Nations, the country has also qualified for six out of seven recent World Cup tournaments, and advanced to the round of 16 on three occasions. This ranking of Nigeria by FIFA is the highest any African country has ever gotten.

2.) Egypt: After winning three straight African cup of nations in 2006, 2008 and 2010, Egypt advanced from their previous position to make it to no 9 in the 2010 FIFA rankings. The country is currently making the African continent proud through the nature of players they produce such as Mohammed Salah, Elneny and Trezeguet who play in the English premier league.

3.) Morocco: The Moroccan national team was considered the best in Africa when they were ranked 10 by FIFA in the world rankings of 1998. They are also the only African national team in history to have been at the top of the FIFA World Rankings for three consecutive years, by FIFA from 1997 to 1999.

4.) Cameroon: As a country with five African Cup of Nations Trophy. Cameroon in 2006 made it to no 11 of the highest FIFA rankings.

5.) Ivory Coast: While the top 10 Fifa rankings was dominated by Europe and America in 2013, the Ivory Coast came no 13 on the list of rankings and no 1 in the Fifa rankings for Africa.
