Andre Onana says good bye to Ajax fans as he joins Italian giants on a five year deal.
Andre Onana has officially announced his departure from Ajax. The Cameroon goalkeeper has been with Ajax’s senior team since 2016.
The 26-year-old signed a 5-year contract with Inter Milan in January and will be joining the Club this summer.
Onana will earn €3m per season salary at the Italian Club.
The former Barcelona B goalkeeper joined Ajax senior team in 2016 and went on to win 3 Eredivisie league titles, 2 KNVB Cup titles, 1 Johan Cruyff shield, and was Europa league runners up with Ajax in 2017 after losing to Manchester United.
In February 2021, Onana was banned from playing for 12 months by UEFA after testing positive for Furosemide, a banned substance. Ajax said he took his wife’s medicine by mistake and that they would appeal the decision. The ban was reduced to nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in June.
The Goalkeeper went to his Social Media handles to say goodbye to Ajax fans
“I arrived with the illusion of a child. With the desire to give everything to this historic club. Now I’m leaving as a man with the satisfaction of having given everything for this shirt, from the first to the last day, ” wrote the 26-year-old
“We have suffered and cried but we have also laughed and celebrated magical moments. I will no longer be able to move you with my saves but my heart will always remain with you”.
“There is no success without failure. There is no Joy without overcoming sadness. Thanks to those of you who always encourage and support me in good times and in bad times”.
“It’s been an honor to be part of the Ajacied history. Now it’s time to take a new path. I don’t know if I have been the best but I know I have always given my best”. Concluded Andre Onana.
Andre Onana will be joining the Cameroon Camp next month as they prepare to take on Burundi in their Afcon 2023 qualifiers. He will also be participating in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November after helping Cameroon gain qualification by making 10 saves in their second leg win against Algeria.
