During his 12-year reign at the top, Nigerian afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, aka Davido, reflected on the development of the genre.
The crooner of “Omo Baba Olowo” stated that the African music industry was different when he started out from it is today.
He noted that afrobeats has developed into a multibillion-dollar industry from a poorly funded one.
Davido wrote about the first Native Now Magazine issue.
He said afrobeats artists now are not only making millions of dollars but also changing lives and communities.
He said, “Afrobeats now and then is different, it’s a multi-billion dollar industry.
“You can’t compare it to years ago when we were just faffing around.
“We were making amazing music and a lot of money but now people are changing communities, changing lives.”
