Nigerian 2022 film, Anikulapo which features Kunle Afolayan, has gotten the 2023 Africa Wizardry Watchers Decision Grant, or AMVCA.
At the ninth AMVCA on Saturday night, the prize was presented to Anikulapo producer Kunle Afolayan and his team.
During his speech at the ceremony, Afolayan praised his mentor, Tunde Kelani, also known as Mainframe.
“I need to thank the cast and group Kunle Remi and co, MNET, and the AMVCA, and we vow to return one year from now,” he expressed.
The Nigeria Oscars selection committee, according to the Kanyidaily, removed “Anikulapo” from the list of nominees for the 2023 Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, in October 2022.
According to the Committee, the film is ineligible to compete in the International Feature Film category of the Oscars on Nigeria’s behalf.
“I am so pleased and delighted that the whole world has decided to tag ANIKULAPO movie a masterpiece even though the Oscar selection committee thinks it’s not worth submitting for the Award,” Kunle Afolayan wrote in a post on social media to express his dissatisfaction. I’ll continue to act independently.
