Shallipopi, a rapidly growing street-pop performer from Nigeria, has admitted that all of his songs are freestyles rather than being written.
Shallipopi, who rose to stardom with the street-hop smash “Elon Musk,” refers to his approach to making music as “freestyling” in an interview with Cool FM Lagos.
He admits that every song he’s ever written is a freestyle, even the ones on his EP Planet Pluto, which came out on July 10, 2023. He continues by saying that he only spent two hours writing the EP.
When the OAP asks as to whether he finds songwriting difficult, he responds that he freestyles on purpose to ensure that the music sounds unpolished and not “too professional.”
‘If I write it, it will be too professional and too strict’, he said. ‘It is supposed to be vibes and cruise’.
