The 2023 edition of the prestigious Met Gala event was a momentous event for Nigerians with two of our own attendants. Both Burna Boy and Tems made their debuts and did not fail to impress. The night’s theme of ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ was held in honor of the late Karl Lagerfeld, a once-regular attendee at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, who had passed away in February of 2019.
As one of the biggest posh fundraising events in the world, the Met Gala is no joking matter. Only the most selected of the world’s trendiest fashionistas and international stars get to attend. The entrance fee is not only exclusive, but it also tends to be extremely expensive. One regular ticket averages at a whopping $30,000, while VIP and VVIP cost a lot more.
The African Giant, Burna Boy, is known for his scintillating performances and daringly edgy sense of fashion, so it was no surprise that his Met Gala entrance was one for the books. Wearing a matching black and blue slightly checkered outfit with a generous cape-like extension of the same material flowing behind him, the singer pulled out all the stops when making his grand arrival. His dramatic yet fashionable entrance was complimented by Irish actor Barry Keoghan, who was also wearing a similar ensemble.

Not to be outdone, Nigerian music sensation Tems made her own exciting entrance in a black and nude ensemble. With a daringly open neckline and a double-layer skirt of tulle edged fabric, Tems made a powerful yet sophisticated statement that left onlookers in awe.

All in all, the Met Gala 2023 event was an absolute success and both Burna Boy and Tems did a fantastic job at representing Nigeria. Their presence caused a global stir and their remarkably impeccable fashion choices made them the talk of the town.
