Asake, a rising star in Nigerian music, has discussed the inspiration for his 2023 single, “Yoga.”
The contemplative and peaceful track, which incorporates chants and drums, departs from his usual style and stands in stark contrast to his previous upbeat releases.
“Yoga” quickly rose to the top of the charts and became Nigeria’s number one song.
Because it depicts his search for inner peace, the song has a significant personal significance for Asake.
He revealed that a particularly overwhelming experience during a concert at Brixton’s O2 Academy in South London served as the inspiration for the song “Yoga.”
Recounting the incident in an interview with Rolling Stone, Asake expressed, “Everything was just so overwhelming. After having 5,000 people inside my show, I still had over 4,000 people outside trying to enter.”
During one of his performances at Brixton’s O2 Academy in South London, a crowd crush occurred, resulting in the loss of two lives, Rebecca Ikumelo and Gaby Hutchinson, and leaving seven others injured.
