Nigerian music sensation, Wizkid, has gotten on board with that fleeting trend and offered his viewpoints on the most recent track by rising star Shallipopi, named “Ex-Convict.” After his hit song “Elon Musk” took the music industry by storm, Shallipopi received a lot of attention and a growing fan base that included celebrities.
The young artist caught the attention of the YBNL boss before the highly anticipated remix featuring Fireboy DML and Zlatan was confirmed. Following Shallipopi’s release from police custody in May 2023, where he faced allegations of fraud, the boss offered his support via social media.
Adding to the growing list of celebrity reactions, Grammy award-winning singer and performer, Wizkid, recently took to his Instagram story to share a picture of himself listening to Shallipopi’s latest release, “Ex-Convict.” Wizkid, known for promoting his favorite Nigerian artists, clearly seems to be enjoying the new wave created by Shallipopi.
The song “Ex-Convict” holds a special significance as it was inspired by Shallipopi’s personal experience of being arrested and detained by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kaduna.
The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest, stating that Shallipopi was among several individuals apprehended due to actionable intelligence regarding a proposed show by suspected Internet fraudsters in Barnawa, Kaduna.
