2022 FIFA World Cup: Spain stroll past helpless Costa Rica 7-0 as Gavi makes history.

Spain produced perfect performance against North America side Costa Rica in a match that also saw Gavi make history as Spain’s youngest ever player to make a World Cup appearance.

Dani Olmo opened the scoring Spain just 10 minutes into the game.
Gavi found a yard of space just outside the area and chiped a delicate ball over the top, which deflected into the path of Olmo, who calmly steered the ball past an exposed Navas! Spain’s 100th World Cup goal puts them 1-0 up!

Asensio send the La Roja 2-0 up 10 minutes later! Alba’s low cross from the left edge of the area slip through the rather static Costa Rica defence, and Asensio reacted first to sweep the ball home via a desperate fingertip from Navas. The veteran goalkeeper could only guide it into the bottom corner, and his side trailed by two!

Spain added the third in the half hour mark. Outfoxing Navas with a skip at the end of his run-up, Torres dinked the ball into the back of the net from the penalty spot, putting his nation three goals to the good!

Torres stroke again to put Spain 4-0 up with his 15th international goal. Having bundled his way into the box, Oviedo failed to deal with the forward’s turn and allowed him to turn the ball past a helpless Navas from close range!

Gavi got Spain’s fifth of the night in the 74th minute! Spain’s record breaker steered home a delightful volley from just inside the box, using the outside of his boot to guide the ball home via the right-hand post! The Barcelona wonderkid scored the goal from Morata’s cross!

It wasn’t over yet for the Costa Ricans as Carlos Soler added a sixth for La Roja in the 89th minute from a rebound after Keylor Navas punched a Nico Williams cross into his path.

Morata then completed the night with a seventh for the Spaniards after a defensive blunder from the Costa Ricans with ball falling into the path of the Atlectico Madrid striker.

In the other group game that took place earlier, Japan stunned Germany 2-1. Spain sit top of the group with 3 points and a plus seven goal difference, followed by Japan with 3 points and plus one goal difference.

Up next for Spain is Germany on the 27th while Japan take on Costa Rica same day.
