See how Cameroon U-17 can still qualify even if they get just a point in the clash against Burkina Faso U-17 today

Recall the fourth team in Cameroon’s AFCON U-17 group South Sudan was suspended by CAF after their players failed MRI test.

The decision now leaves Group C with only three teams comprising Cameroon, Mali and Burkina Faso.

The earlier rules stated that the top two from each and the two best third-placed teams advance to the quarterfinal however, the CAF Organizing Committee for Youth Committee has adjusted that.

Cameroon U-17 National team can still qualify for the next stage of the 2023 U-17 AFCON with a draw against Burkina Faso.

In the new rules for qualification, the result of the third team against the fourth in the groups will not be counted.

Meaning that the two matches taken into consideration to determine the two best third-placed teams will be their matches against the first and the second of the group.

Now third placed team in Group B, South Africa played and won against fourth placed Zambia in matchday one but however, the result will not count according to the updated rule

This leaves South Africa on -3 goal difference and 0 points because Zambia result doesn’t matter

Cameroon are on -2 already

Burkina Faso are on – 1

A draw between will put Burkina Faso second in the group with 1 point and -1 goal difference and Cameroon qualifying as best third placed team with 1 point and -2 goal difference.

A win for Burkina Faso will eliminate Cameroon from the competition unless Cameroon score’s six goals and lost by only one goal difference in the defeat which is highly unlikely, while a win for Cameroon with more than 2 goal difference will eliminate Burkina Faso with South Africa qualifying.
