Andre Onana set to be available for AFCON after having his ban reduced by CAS

News

Andre Onana will be available for selection in the upcoming AFCON scheduled to take place in his home country Cameroon

Andre Onana’s ban was reduced by CAS of sports from 12months to 9months.
Onana was banned after a substance furosemide was found in his urine after an “out of competition check” on 30 October last year.
Onana explained that he accidentally took a pill containing the substance that was prescribed for his wife thinking it was aspirin. He asked CAS to overturn the ban rather than reduce it.
The CAS panel found that no significant fault could be attributed to Onana who mistakenly took a pill destined for another person.
The CAS panel considered that a 9 months ban is proportionate to the error but couldn’t accept the goalkeeper’s request of overturning the ban.
This means Andre Onana will miss the start of the season with Ajax and also means 4 world cup qualifiers games with Cameroon in September when they play Malawi and Ivory coast and October when they play back to back games against Mozambique.

Onana can resume training 2 months before the end of his suspension.
