CAF Media relations manager “This is obvious hypocrisy in the treatment of Africa, there will be the CAN in January and it will be in Cameroon”
There has been a lot of uncertainty regarding the African cup of nations which is scheduled to take place next month.
This came after French based RMC reported that the Confederation of African Football is planning to postpone the tournament. However CAF released a statement the following day calling the information as “Fake news”.
The European Clubs Association also released a statement to FIFA stating that they won’t release African players unless CAF provides a proper health protocol for the players which includes maintaining a five day quarantine for returning players.
CAF media relations manager Lux September had this to say
“No one else was ordered to cancel his event. Why only Africa? Has anyone written a letter to other confederations that organize events? This is obvious hypocrisy in the treatment of Africa. The new CAF management simply does not accept this. The CAN is an important tournament generating revenue for the CAF. We need it. Of course, we will organize the CAN in the best possible conditions”.
“I ask everyone to show a little respect for Africa,” he added. “A total lack of respect on the part of some people in their comments on African competitions is not something we appreciate. It is very clear that Africa will do what is in Africa’s interest. I don’t understand why it is so difficult for anyone to understand this – there will be the CAN in January and it will be in Cameroon”.
