Cameroon defeat Cape Verde 4-1 to go top of Group D of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Cameroon has defeated Cape Verde 4-1 in Matchday 3 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

 

The win puts Cameroon on seven points after Matchday 3, ahead of Libya on goal difference.

 

Michael Ngadeu opened the scoring for the Indomitable Lions just 13 minutes into the first half from a Moumi Ngamaleu corner. Vincent Aboubakar doubled the lead in the 25th minute, capitalizing on another Moumi Ngamaleu assist. Jamiro Monteiro pulled one back for Cape Verde in the 37th minute, but Vincent Aboubakar restored Cameroon’s two-goal lead from the spot just eight minutes later after Ngamaleu was fouled in the box.

 

It took only nine minutes into the second half for Cameroon to score their fourth goal of the afternoon, as Nouhou Tolo headed in his first goal for the national team. Cape Verde had the opportunity to pull one back from the spot in second half added time, but Onana denied them with a magnificent save

Next up, Cameroon will face Angola on Tuesday, while Cape Verde will face Libya.
