Enner Valencia scores a brace as Ecuador defeat Qatar 2-0 in 2022 FIFA World Cup opening match.

Ecuador has defeated host nation Qatar 2-0 in the opening match of the 2022 FIFA world cup.

Enner Valencia thought he had scored the first goal of this years tournament when he had 5 minute header controversially disallowed for offside.

However that didn’t stop him as he still went ahead to score the first goal of this years tournament ten minutes later from the spot.

Valencia was on the scoresheet again as he doubled the the lead for South American side in the half hour mark scoring his second of the night.

Ecuador now sit top of the group with 3 points while Qatar are bottom of the group with 0 points.

Netherlands take on Senegal tomorrow for the second group A fixture.

Up next for Qatar is African champions Senegal while Ecuador face group favourites Netherlands.
