Iran who came into this fixture on the back of a 6-2 lost to England looked the most threatening side. The came close to scoring in the second half but hit the post twice in the space of nine seconds.
Iran also had a goal ruled out in the first half just 15 minutes into the game for offside after a VAR check.
Goalkeeper Wayne Henderson was sent off for Wales in the 88th minute after a reckless foul on Taremi just outside the box, the first Red card of the tournament so far.
Roosbeh Chesmi won it late for Iran as a he placed a beautiful shot from outside the box into the bottom corner.
Ramin Rezaeian doubled the lead for Iran three minutes later with a beautiful chip over substitute Goalkeeper Ward.
The win puts Iran on three points while Wale have a point.
Wales and Iran have to get maximum points to stand a chance of qualifying in their next fixtures against England and USA respectively who face each other later in the evening today.
