Karl Toko Ekambi announces his retirement from international football

Karl Toko Ekambi has announced his retirement from international football after competing at 4 AFCONs with the Indomitable Lions

 

The 31 Year-old made the announcement in a post on his Instagram account.

 

“My Teammates and I gave in our all but it wasn’t enough. We offer our sincere apologies to the people of Cameroon that we have disappointed. We promise to make it up on the next matches of the indomitable lions. LET’S GO LIONS!!🦁 🇨🇲“

This comes just five days after Cameroon were booted out of AFCON 2023 by Nigeria in the Round of 16.

 

Toko Ekambi made his debut for Cameroon on 6 June 2015 in a 3–2 friendly win over Burkina Faso in Colombes, France, as a 66th-minute substitute for Justin Mengolo.

 

He was part of the Cameroon team that won the AFCON in 2017, and also part of the team that finished third in 2021. Overall, Ekambi has scored 14 Goals in 61 appearances for the Indomitable Lions
