Morocco joins Cameroon as the only African nations to defeat the Brazilian Senior Men’s National Team after their 2-1 win over Brazil yesterday.
The Atlas Lions secured their first-ever win over the South American giants yesterday.
Soufiane Boufal and Abdelhamid Sabiri were on the score sheet for Morocco while Casemiro scored the goal for Brazil.
Morocco now joins Cameroon who did it twice, as the only African nations to defeat the Brazil National team.
Cameroon’s first came in a 1-0 win over Brazil in the 2003 FIFA Confederations cup thanks to a Samuel Eto’o winner. Their second win against came in last year’s 2022 FIFA World Cup group stages after Aboubakar scored a last minute winner to secure a 1-0 victory for Cameroon.
Matches in the Olympic games are not considered since the tournament is only played by players under the age of 23 and at most three players above the age 23.
From Barcelona 1992, male footballers at the Olympics needed to be under 23 years of age, with three 23-plus players allowed since Atlanta 1996. There are no such restrictions for the women’s teams.
