Senegal defeat Ecuador 2-1 and become first African country to qualify for the knock out stage
Senegal are through to the knock out stages of the 2022 FIFA world cup after their 2-1 win over Ecuador.
Senegal become the first African nation to qualify for the World Cup knock stage since 2014 edition of the tournament. They join group leaders Netherlands, France, Portugal and Brazil in the knock out stage.
Sarr opened the scoring for Senegal from the spot just before the break. It was a cool as you like from the man that won the penalty! He made a slow run-up to the spot, stuttering it as he stared down the goalkeeper. He coolly sloted it into the bottom right corner, leaving Galindez static in the middle of his line.
Caicedo brought Ecuador level eights minutes pass the hour mark. It was a great delivery from Plata on the corner and Torres rose highest to flick it on in the middle of the crowded box. Caicedo was unmarked at the far post, and being played on by the man on the line, and he sloted it into the back of the net.
It didn’t take the African champions long to reply as they got back infront just two minutes after Ecuador’s equaliser. Idrissa Gueye stepped up to the free-kick he won and swong a wonderful delivery into the box. It bounced off Torres’ shoulder and straight to Koulibaly. He was unmarked and fired a wonderful volley straight past Galindez.
