Senegal hands a Africa it’s first win as they defeat Qatar 3-1 to increase their chances of qualifying for the knock out stage.
Senegal opened the scoring in the 41st minutes after a blunder by Qatar defender Khouki. Diatta swong a cross in from the left and Khoukhi lost his footing as he tried to clear his lines. It bounced up off his hip and it bounced kindly for Dia, who rolled it past Barsham to put Senegal 1-0 up.
The Terrenga Lions went 2-0 up just 3 minutes into the second half. Senegal won a corner and it’s was a good delivery from Jakobs. Diedhiou made the run to the near post on the edge of the six-yard box, and he stooped before flicking his header over Barsham and into the far top corner.
Qatar finally got their first-ever goal at a World Cup! It’s was a wonderful switch out to Mohammad on the right and he had time to set himself before curling a cross into the middle. Muntari wanted it more and he got above Koulibaly to thump a header past Mendy into the far post. 2-1!
Senegal had their two-goal cushion back just few minutes later! Sabaly knocked it onto Ndiaye down the right and he pulled it back into the middle. Dieng just held his run, losing Khoukhi, before turning his first-time shot past the diving Barsham and into the back of the net. 3-1 Senegal!
Senegal and Ecuador play each other next in a tie that will determine the Terranga Lions qualification faith while already eliminated hosts Qatar take on Netherlands.
Netherlands and Ecuador face off today at 5pm to complete the second round of fixtures for Group A.
