“The National Team abandoned me when I lost my dad” Martin Hongla on Le Onze Entrant on CFOOT
Indomitable Lions midfielder Martin Hongla feels that the national team abandoned him when he lost his dad.
The 25-year-old lost his father back in April, and according to him, the National Team didn’t offer him the support he needed.
Hongla was a guest on the Le Onze Entrant show on CFOOT, where he spoke about various topics, including his exclusion from Cameroon’s 2023 AFCON Provisional Squad.
“I lost my dad, and I didn’t see anyone. I have been feeling abandoned.”
“There are things you just can’t accept. The national team is like family to me. When my dad passed away, I didn’t see anyone at the time when I needed everyone. So far, I have no issues with anyone. I posted a message (it’s raining on all roofs, ndir) because I felt abandoned at the time when I needed everyone. Maybe they have another problem that I’m not familiar with. But the truth is this: I have no problem with anyone in the national team, whether it’s the staff or the players. I get along with everyone. This post was not meant to attack anyone. It came from the heart because when a man, a child, loses his daddy, he needs his second family to help him, and the national team is my second family. I will never regret this message because it comes from the heart. I have been feeling abandoned. In the end, I’m going to say that I have no problem with anyone. If today I’m not summoned regarding x or y, I’ll take it on myself and accept it.”

When asked about his exclusion from Cameroon’s 2023 AFCON Provisional Squad, Hongla had this to say:
“Maybe the coach says I’m not up to it. That’s a pity! It hurts, but we have to deal with it. That’s what sport is all about.”
