Vincent Aboubakar reveals why he didn’t start Cameroon’s first match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Switzerland
Vincent Aboubakar came off the bench during Cameroon’s FIFA World cup match against Switzerland and he has now reveal the reason why he didn’t start the match.
According to Vincent Aboubakar, the decision was made even before the tournament started.
Speaking on the Program Talent d’Afrique yesterday on Canal plus sport, Vincent Aboubakar went on to reveal why he was left out by head coach Rigobert song in Cameroon’s first 2022 FIFA World Cup match against Switzerland
“The coach (Rigobert Song) had decided that whoever scored in the last friendly (against Panama) would start against Switzerland. It was Eric (Choupo-Moting) who scored so he started,” he said.
Decisive during Cameroon’s second match against Serbia, Aboubakar also revealed he promised Olivier Mbaizo he will score if he comes on “… During the match against Serbia, I told Olivier Mbaizo that against Switzerland I had 15 minutes, if they give me only 2 minutes, I would be decisive,” he added
Though Cameroon were eliminated in the group stage, Vincent Aboubakar had a tournament to remember. He came on as a substitute against Serbia when Cameroon were loosing 3-1, he scored an audacious chip and then assisted Choupo Moting for Cameroon’s equalizer. In the last group match against Brazil, he scored a last minute header to hand Cameroon and Africa’s first win over Brazil in FIFA World Cup history
