Who is Devis Epassy? The only African goalkeeper to win MOTM in the 2022 FIFA World Cup so far
Devis Epassy is the man on every Cameroonian’s lips at the moment after his performance in Cameroon’s 1-0 shocking FIFA World Cup win over five times World Cup champions Brazil yesterday.
Epassy plays for Saudi Arabia club Abha fc. The goalkeeper was born on the 02 February 1993 in Soisy-sous-Montmorency, France but chose to represent Cameroon and made his debut goalless draw against Nigeria in 08, June 2021. Since then he has gone up to make seven appearances for the Indomitable Lions with the most recent coming against Brazil yesterday. In that run he has kept four clean sheets and conceded six goals.
The 29 year old who is the only African goalkeeper to win the World Cup man of the match so far in this years World Cup made seven saves against Brazil yesterday. Epassy came to spotlight in the tournament when he replaced Andre Onana in the match against Serbia after the goalkeeper was suspended for disciplinary reasons. He appeared shaky in his World Cup debut match against Serbia which lelf fans wondering if head coach Rigobert Song made the right decision in suspending Andre Onana. However he came back strong with a mouth watering performance against World number ranked nation Brazil.
Brazil came into the match with a record of 17 World cup group stage matches unbeaten and not having lost to an African country in their World Cup history but Vincent Aboubakar ensured all these records were broken with his stoppage time goal
